These days, the main city beach and promenade connecting the old and new parts of the town of Pag have gotten a new spot - D10‘s Pizza Fantasista pizzeria. Right by the sea, behind a row of palm trees, you can now sit on the terrace, relax, and, with a view of the large pizza oven, have something already familiar yet always good for lunch.
The pizza here, as they tell us, is true Neapolitan. They make the traditional ruota di carro, which exceeds the plate in size, has a slightly lower crust than the classic Neapolitan pizzas served in our pizzerias, and most of the ingredients, such as flour, San Marzano tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella, come from Italy. However, what excites us even more is the offer of some slightly different pizzas, among which are those specially dedicated to Pag and the coast, featuring Pag cheese and Dalmatian prosciutto.
The menu was largely created by Jernej Berlot, a Slovenian pizzaiolo and instructor, and Adrian Fetahu, a pizzaiolo from Split.
"The menu starts with classics; the number one Marinara in this case isn‘t the chef‘s but Buffon‘s, the Bufala at number three belongs to Maldini, the classic at number five is Beckenbauer‘s, while the real summer hit in the attack with number 11 is Mo Salah’s Bresaola. Why number ten is called Dalma will be immediately clear to any decent football connoisseur and those familiar with details from Diego Armando Maradona‘s life. But even those who aren‘t will have the chance to learn a lot and look around while waiting for their pizza, because the entire interior of the pizzeria is actually a small football museum. Stickers, posters, and memorabilia from clubs all over the world, player cards from World Cups through the decades that stir emotions even in the most grown-up guests. There‘s also a whole collection of framed iconic, but also little-known photos from the world of football and Maradona‘s life. Numerous flags from different countries hanging everywhere give it an international flair, which is not by accident. It‘s woven into the very philosophy of the project, which is intended to be something more than a pizzeria; the idea is to bring top names and masters from the world of pizza to the island of Pag, no matter where they‘re from," explained Martina Bušić and Ivan Šetka from D10‘s Pizza Fantasista pizzeria.
They have already announced guest appearances, and as we learned, the first will be from the currently super popular Zagreb pizzeria Shango, followed by a few surprises from Slovenia, and even some well-known names directly from Naples.
And most importantly, D10‘s Pizza Fantasista will be open all summer, but also for the rest of the year, so whenever you find yourself in Pag and crave pizza, be sure to consider sitting on their terrace, especially if you‘re a big football fan (and of good pizza, of course).
