On the gentle plain between Papuk and Drava, once lived count families, and today Višnjica is a true eco-estate attracting numerous tourists from all over the country and the world. Here you can groom a horse, go cycling, plant trees, enjoy the flavors of traditional Slavonian cuisine, and even get married. Everything, as our colleague Nikola Patković reported for LIKE Premium magazine at the end of last year, is organized to satisfy and pamper all your senses. And perhaps the only and best way to experience and feel at least a piece of the former lifestyle of Slavonian peasants, which the owners – the Plantak and Perković families – have taken care of.
What we particularly like in this story is that, besides offering accommodation and various outdoor activities at Višnjica – which will delight parents seeking meaningful entertainment for their children – you can also "taste" Slavonian tradition through various dishes, but also workshops.
"We have, for example, the making of traditional pasta, which is served as one of the meals. The workshops are held in the park, in nature. There are also workshops for cooking čobanac stew, gardening, tree planting, and cup painting. We have converted one stable into a space reminiscent of old Slavonian houses, and we wish to revive traditional crafts for the entertainment of guests on colder winter days and to fill the time with quality activities," said, among other things, Igor Krpačić, director of Pustara Višnjica, to our colleague when he visited Višnjica in November 2024.
Great importance is given to the gastronomic offer, which, of course, is based on Slavonian tradition, but is refined in a more modern way, in line with trends and health advice.
"But, I must say, no one thinks about calories when we serve our crackling scones, warm and delicious, or salenjaci pastries," added Ksenija Plantak, one of the co-owners of Višnjica, whose great-grandfather worked there as a groom, to colleague Patković. The sustainability of the estate is also reflected in the fact that you will get meat produced on their farm on your plate, as they have their own beef, veal, and young beef, and homemade cured meat delicacies such as kulen, bacon, sausages, and cracklings are sourced from local family farms.
There is also the Kotač tavern, that is, a daily à la carte restaurant built on the site where there used to be a canopy, which they closed in and repurposed for its current use, where you can cook some rarely seen specialties. Among them is a soup made from seven types of herbs, such as nettle, mallow, and plantain, picked on their estate. Here you can also try mlinci (flatbread) with nettle, as well as homemade bread with sweet potato, or with bacon.
Sweet potato appears quite often on their menu, so you will find it in gnocchi, as a side dish with beefsteak in green pepper sauce or with venison fillet in forest fruit sauce, but also as a sweet treat in sweet potato cream cake with chocolate topping. Of course, you will also find sweet potato in the Višnjica pizza. There is also a selection of grilled dishes and roasts such as lamb and suckling pig. In short, something for everyone. Tasty, delicious, and homemade. And, we would add at the end, definitely a good idea for a spring weekend when you want to get away from the city and simply enjoy with your whole being.
