When love for food and an eye for detail come together in the same house, wonderful things can happen, and the new small Zagreb brand Platica is a good proof of that. Namely, when Aleksandra and her husband Miro came up with the idea to turn sharing food into something even more, a small ritual and experience, that‘s when the idea for their new project was born. Soon they were ready to launch their first product, a platter with a story, and so Platica was born, a blend of aesthetics and quality packed into delicious bites, as they like to describe their brand themselves.

Today, they are engaged in designing special platters, combining selected ingredients, but with a strong focus on the visual aspect and a sense for the occasion. Birthdays, office or home celebrations, outdoors or indoors, it doesn’t matter, as long as the table features a rich selection of carefully chosen products that actually make a harmonious whole.

"Through the platters we make, we want to convey our idea – a taste that brings people together, because it’s in those small moments that memories are created that last," they told us in a brief conversation.

We were immediately curious at the start about what makes their platters different from all the others we‘ve ordered and enjoyed so far.

"At Platica, nothing is done in a hurry – every ingredient is cut by hand, to the thickness that suits it best, and paired with additions that highlight it. We often choose ingredients that are not found in everyday shopping – such as bresaola, sheep cheese with chili, or pancetta with truffles. They bring a slightly different experience and give Platica a distinctive tone. Details like candied almonds and fresh fruit are not just decoration, but an addition that complements the overall impression – and you can feel it from the first bite," they told us.

The current offer includes six platters, named after inspirations from Zagreb. For example, the combination that brings together Drniš prosciutto, bresaola with pecorino, ricotta and truffle cheese, tradition and finer notes, as they say, is called Kaptol i Gradec. On the platter Put Dolca you‘ll find kulen, guanciale, sheep cheese with chili, spicy ingredients that nicely reflect the character of the market, while prosciutto and milder cheeses soften the tone and round out the flavors.

On the platter Kroz Staru Vlašku you‘ll find brie, burrata with truffles, and bresaola, while Zagrljaj na Štrosu is the only platter that can be arranged in the shape of a letter, number, or symbol. Mando Zagrabi is a platter dedicated to cheese and contains mild ricotta, chive cheese, gorgonzola, and pecorino, spreads and honey, while Đir uspinjačom features prosciutto, ham, brie, montasio, and truffle cheese. As they say at Platica, they source ingredients from trusted suppliers, small producers, and family farms, and pay special attention to quality in all segments, from cheeses and cured meats to bread and wine, which they recently added to their offer. For example, they use bread from the Zagreb bakery Boogie Lab.

Most importantly, ordering their platters is quite simple, done through an online form, where you’ll also find all the prices, descriptions, and arrange pickup at their location on Vukovarska in Zagreb.

Although they started the business only a few months ago, they say they are extremely satisfied with the direction the whole story is heading, and what they like most is that customers come to them on the recommendation of others who have already tried their services. In the future, they would like to collaborate with bars, especially wine bars, but they are open to other ideas and partnerships as well. Until then, they are already diligently working on new combinations.

"Seasonal elements and creative details constantly inspire us. Soon a new platter is coming, which we believe will be a real hit – a combination of top-quality cheeses with strong character and our most sought-after cured meat delicacy, with additions we’re not revealing just yet. We’ll just say – it will be a treat for all who love intense flavors and small gourmet details," they revealed at the end of our conversation with Platica.
