Discover artisan spots serving mouthwatering sandwiches and creative pastries perfect for sunny-day cravings.

If you are spending more and more sunny days outdoors, you will surely crave a good breakfast, a quick snack, or a sweet treat on the go, so this list of favorites from beloved Zagreb bakeries will definitely come in handy. We have picked the best from the offerings of artisan bakeries that we ourselves love to visit, where we always find excellent sandwiches, sweet and savory puff pastries, where we buy bread.

WHERE TO BUY BREAD, SANDWICHES, AND GOOD PASTRY?

Kukuriku Bakery is one of our favorites when we need good bread, especially when we crave quality corn, rye, or focaccia. Recently, we also bought an excellent mortadella sandwich here, which was generously filled and delicious, filling, and juicy. Their customers often choose the sandwich with soft brioche (which is so good we would eat it warm on its own), and the croissant sandwich is also popular. Also, Kukuriku makes excellent puff pastry, so you can‘t go wrong if you pick any of their croissants for a quick treat.

SAVORY SALENJAKS AND OTHER DELIGHTS

During a recent visit to the bistro and bakery Salo on Zagreb‘s Opatovina, we tried several new items. We especially liked the substantial breakfast inspired by Turkish eggs, which they make here with homemade yogurt, and among the favorites, we also included an excellent apple pie, savory salenjaks, and pizza with potatoes and Swiss chard, which we liked so much that we‘ve tried to replicate it at home several times since.

NEW SWEET FAVORITES

Zagreb‘s Noel Bread&Deli recently got an upgrade, the display case has become more colorful and, logically, we had to stop by one of their locations to try out what‘s new. Among the new favorites, we definitely include their tiramisu tart, then the soft aromatic pastry with pistachio cream and rosehip jam, and we also like the spanakopita puff pastry filled with feta, ricotta, and spinach.

These days we also tried the pinca from Noel Bread&Deli, which we liked quite a bit. It was nicely crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and just aromatic enough to pair well with both savory and sweet toppings. They also introduced a few new breads, among which we especially like the buckwheat bread.

CRUFFIN IS AN ETERNAL FAVORITE

At Bread Club you can‘t go wrong with the favorite pistachio cruffin (they offer it in several other varieties, but this will forever be our favorite), we also especially love their creamy spanakopita, and when we need bread, we choose Didov (still excellent value for money when it comes to sourdough bread).

If, after touring the city, you are visiting friends and would like to bring a special gift for your hosts, definitely consider Bread Club‘s poppy seed roll.

PIZZA

At Boogie Lab we like to treat ourselves to a mortadella sandwich, which is one of our general favorites when it comes to Zagreb‘s sandwich offerings, but we don‘t shy away from their puff pastry treats either. Classics like croissants are always a good choice here, and if you stop by Boogie in the afternoon, we definitely recommend you try their pizza.

AND A BIT MORE PINCA

Artisan bakery Korica is one of the most popular bakeries in Zagreb, thanks to their amazing pastries. In addition, a few weeks ago we tried one of their newer desserts, a lemon cheesecake, which left quite an impression.
