Celebrated in countless songs, literary adventures - summer is, whether you love it or not, a favorite time for many for a long annual vacation, relaxation, but also for ‘awakening‘ the desire for a life change. In this Gloria series, famous faces reveal where they‘ll spend their summer vacation this year, but also what they can‘t go to the beach without.
When it comes to summer leisure, Bojana Gregorić Vejzović (53) keeps things simple. She says she leaves Zagreb for the coast with two tunics, two swimsuits, one dress in case of an unplanned event or show, because her summer motto is relaxation and simplicity.
However, she‘s not completely relaxed when it comes to skincare, so her beach bag always contains hydrating and richer body creams, especially those with sun protection factor.
"I always use SPF 50, even when I get a tan. I avoid tanning oils, it happened that, even though I was already tanned, I turned red from the oil," points out Bojana, who never forgets soul food even at the seaside.
‘Library‘ on the beach
"I usually take 2 or 3 books to the beach. When one becomes too heavy, I swap it out, and so on in a circle. Enes recently bought ‘Anatomy of God‘ by Francesca Stavrakopoulou. Smart, witty, with plenty of historical data, and there‘s Kristijan Novak too. Anyway, with Enes, there‘s never a lack of reading material because he likes to bring a ‘library‘, but, for example, he forgets his swim trunks; he despises being on the beach," the dramatic artist says with a laugh, whose summers, despite her experience and the passing years, haven‘t changed much compared to those from her childhood.
Unforgettable childhood memories
"With Grandpa and Grandma Gregorić, lunch was on the table around 1:30 PM, and that way we avoided being out in the strong sun. It‘s still like that in my family today. Siesta lasts until 4 PM, because during the day there‘s time for everything: swimming, socializing, coffee, books…
This sun today is so strong that you have to take care of your health and get out of it - I keep telling the kids that," says the Zagreb native, grateful for the wonderful summer days in Rabac with her grandparents, hanging out with her cousins with whom, she says, she learned to swim at just four years old. Her first dive into the sea and her first disco outings are connected to Rabac – when she and her cousins would sneak out of the house because at 16 they were allowed to stay out until 10 PM.
Arcadia in the south...
She decided to find her second summer oasis with her husband Enes on Pelješac, where she bought a house 15 years ago.
"We adore our little place, the wonderful people who live here, with whom we share beautiful memories and the growing up of our children. Actually, this is the bay of their childhood. Everyone knows each other, when they were little we would all look after the kids who would wander around the place in ‘packs‘. The most important thing was to teach them to swim, after which they‘d shout as they passed: ‘Now we‘re going to Šimun‘s, we‘re going to Niko‘s‘.
That freedom is worth its weight in gold! There‘s a special charm when you come home again, in a way, because Pelješac really is our second home," Bojana described life by the sea in the summer, which she describes like this: "Who wouldn‘t love summer? It‘s relaxation from work and all worries. Beautiful nature, a beach below the house, a boat, friends, families. Socializing, barbecuing, homemade olive oil… That‘s the beauty of life!"
