Sung about in countless songs and literary adventures – summer, whether you love it or not, is for many a favorite time for a long vacation, relaxation, but also a ‘wake-up call‘ for a desire for life change.
This time, the ‘secret‘ of her beach bag was revealed to us by musician and TV host Ida Prester (45), whose central spot is taken by sunscreen with SPF 50.
"My skin simply can‘t tolerate the sun at all, unfortunately. So for years, I return from the sea with the same white skin as when I arrived from the mainland. It‘s the color of builder‘s lime," jokes the Zagreb native, whose beach bag is stuffed with towels for the family; eleven-year-old Roko and nine-year-old Rio, her husband Ivan, all sorts of snacks for an all-day stay, water, and some medical bits and pieces.
"I don‘t go to the beach without a sterile strip for closing wounds. Every year at least one child needs it for small cuts and scrapes. It‘s a phenomenal thing because for minor injuries it saves them from painful stitches at the emergency room, which, however, didn‘t help me this year because Rio cut himself on the beach a few days ago and got six stitches," says the caring mom, who after the unwanted episode congratulated her boy on his bravery on social media and mentioned that the scar that will remain after the wound heals will be an emotional reminder of childhood.
Parents in Zagreb, kids on Hvar
The childhood of playful Rio and Roko will be marked by the Red Island opposite Rovinj, where for the last ten years the family has been spending hot summer days. On Red Island, they hang out with four families, whom, Ida says, they met when Roko was in kindergarten.
"On that small island, there is no traffic, no crowds, no outings. That‘s why I carry minimal things, I‘ve learned that I need almost nothing except the basic bits. We‘re all barefoot, without makeup or hairdos, all day long I‘m in two swimsuits that I alternate," Ida told us, enchanted also by the little forest on Red Island where she hides from the strong sun. And this summer, Ida Prester Peševski‘s vacation will last until the beginning of August when she and her husband return to Zagreb to their obligations, while their sons will continue to play and relax at their grandparents‘ on Hvar.
"For me, vacation means a break from all obligations, makeup, high heels, stress. So I enjoy the relaxation on this little island where nobody cares whether you have a pedicure or cellulite. At least that‘s how I behave," she concluded.
