If you‘ve ever wandered around Split in search of real bread, the kind with a crispy crust, rich aroma and a texture that speaks for itself, you know how challenging that can be. Fortunately, in recent years Split has become a true little kingdom of artisan bakeries offering products far above the standard range. Here, it‘s not just about bread but about love, knowledge, and time invested in every loaf.

Whether you‘re looking for sourdough bread, a French baguette, melt-in-your-mouth croissants, or a modern version of a sandwich, below we guide you through the best addresses in Split that you must visit if you‘re always on the hunt for good bread.

Shtruca

Seemingly unassuming, but well-known among lovers of quality bread, Shtruca is a true hidden gastro oasis located in Brda. This artisan bakery was started by architect Andrea Mušura, who poured her creative talent into this story.

You don‘t just come here for the bread, but for the experience. Everything is done by hand, with a lot of care and passion for fermentation. The bread is baked in small batches and is available on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, exclusively by pre-order, which must be made a day in advance. It‘s best to follow them on social media because Andrea regularly posts what‘s on offer. Pickup is organized in the small production at the Brda market.

Kruščić Artisan Bakery

Located literally a few steps from the legendary Split fish market, Kruščić is the first Split bakery that took the term ‘artisan‘ seriously. They make bread without any additives or preservatives, and each loaf is inspired by recipes from France and Germany.

Their baguette, boule, various pastries, and even seasonal products like focaccia or rustic cakes are fresh and fragrant every day, and it‘s hard to resist them. Working hours are limited to the morning because almost everything is sold out by noon, so if you want to catch something from their offer, you‘ll have to be an early riser. The address is Obrov 6.

Kruv

Another small but original artisan bakery is located at Mejaši 33. At Kruv, logically, they offer several types of bread, from white wheat to rye and corn, and customers especially love their puff pastries, doughnuts, and other sweet and savory bites. Everything we saw at Kruv looked tempting, so it‘s no wonder they‘re so popular that they‘re soon opening a new location at Sukoišanska 2.

Hand Made by Biberon

An ideal place for all who love the combination of quality food and aesthetics. The address where you can find them is Ivana Gundulića 6.

La Feta

La Feta is a project led by chef Željko Đuričić, whose love for baking bread grew out of pure passion. What started as a home experiment is now a serious bakery with an offer worth exploring.

The focus is on sourdough, and the current offer includes two types of bread, along with additions like focaccia and ciabatta. In addition, there are sweet products like cinnamon rolls, matching the quality of the pastries. Working hours are from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm, and the bakery is located at Alojzija Stepinca 8. So, if you appreciate bread made with thoughtfulness, this is the address you need to visit.
