News is coming from Boškinac on the island of Pag about an expansion of their offer. In addition to the existing restaurant, tavern, and winery, they are now introducing brunch on their beautiful garden terrace. For those who are not familiar, Boškinac has long been one of the key players on the island’s gastronomic scene, but also in the country. Thanks to the vision of owner Boris Šuljić, whose involvement in the kitchen, winery, and tourism development has defined the modern history of Pag, the island has been discovered by numerous tourists, curious visitors, and chefs. A turning point in wider perception was the visit of Anthony Bourdain in 2012, after which the restaurant gained additional popularity outside of Croatia. Bourdain recorded his visit with the famous statement: "If you haven’t been here, you’re an idiot. I’m an idiot!"
After Bourdain’s visit, Boškinac experienced a great upswing, which both the restaurant and hotel bravely endured. People traveled from distant America to Pag (and still do today) just to experience what the famous chef did.
On one hand, there is the fine dining restaurant, which today proudly bears the prestigious Michelin star. Under the leadership of chef Matija Bregeš, it represents the pinnacle of island gastronomy. On the other hand, as the heart and soul of Boškinac, the tavern operates. There, a more traditional, authentic cuisine is nurtured, offering comforting and recognizable flavors of Pag. With last year’s move to introduce three-course daily menus at an affordable price of 32 euros, the tavern has also become an extremely popular spot offering excellent value for money, thus attracting an even wider circle of guests.
The introduction of brunch is a logical step with which Boškinac completes its offer, providing guests with a more relaxed meal format. The concept, of course, relies on Boškinac’s fundamental principle, that is, a commitment to quality ingredients sourced from local producers. Guests can enjoy brunch in the garden bar every day from 9 AM to 3 PM, in a pleasant setting overlooking the Pag fields.
The menu is designed to offer a choice between classic and Mediterranean dishes. The offer includes eggs Benedict (€10) and scrambled eggs with bacon (€7), along with dishes like focaccia with mozzarella, prosciutto, and figs (€12). Guests can also choose avocado toast with salmon (€11), tuna salad with couscous (€14), or quiche with prosciutto and spinach (€9). For a lighter meal, there is granola with yogurt (€12) and waffles with fresh fruit (€9), while for two people there is a platter available that includes hummus, baba ganoush, and guacamole (€18).
Alongside the standard bar drinks offer, such as freshly squeezed juices, several cocktails will also be served during brunch, such as Mimosa (€9), Espresso Martini (€14), and Cheesecake cocktail (€17).
If you are near Pag this summer, a visit to Boškinac for brunch, as well as dinner in the restaurant or tavern, is an experience you do not want to miss, but it is best to see for yourself.
