After we confirmed what everyone already knows – that Bol on Brač is THE destination not only for summer, but all seasons, it‘s time to tackle the most important question: where to eat?
Because let‘s be honest, there‘s nothing worse than wandering around a place with unstable Wi-Fi, an empty stomach, and your hundredth attempt to find “some cool restaurant that‘s not a tourist trap.” That‘s where I step in. And this guide. Because if you‘re going to Bol, don‘t eat just anywhere. These are the places locals prefer to keep to themselves. And now you know them too.
Brunch at Varadero
As soon as you disembark at the Bol port and take a leisurely stroll down the promenade – the one that leads you alongside the boats – the first and most important question of the day will greet you: what to eat first? Although you might think the sea is the priority (and it is, but not right away), trust me – brunch comes first.
The perfect place for that is called Varadero – a true local institution for anyone who likes to start the day deliciously and photogenically. Although it’s located in the perfect spot right by the waterfront, what really grabs attention here is the menu, where you can find everything from creamy avocado toast and crispy quesadillas with melted cheese, to banana bread, acai smoothie bowls and waffles that smell just as divine as they look.
And if you’re a fan of unusual drinks – you’re in luck. They offer latte drinks in interesting and healthy varieties: turmeric, matcha, and – my personal favorite – beetroot latte. Yes, it’s pink. Yes, it sounds unusual. And yes, it’s worth every drop.
Honestly, I couldn’t decide on just one dish, so I ended up with one savory and one sweet combination: quesadilla and acai bowl. And you know what? It turned out perfect. Light enough for a summer morning, but substantial enough to keep me going until lunch. Varadero is one of those places you want to return to as soon as you get the bill – because there’s still so much more on the menu tempting you.
Lunch at restaurant Noa
After hours spent in the sea and a proud 70% battery usage on taking photos under the sunshade, that pivotal moment of the day arrives – your body no longer craves SPF, but a proper lunch. A real, seafood lunch, fragrant with olive oil and childhood memories, with plates arriving one after another, clinking as the prelude to an afternoon siesta. Luckily, there’s no need to leave the beach – restaurant Noa is located right by the sea. Literally. And let’s admit it, life rarely offers a better backdrop than having lunch like royalty, with a wet towel over your chair and sun in your hair.
Since my group, as usual, couldn’t agree on what to order, we decided to play it safe: “give us a bit of everything.” And that “bit of everything” quickly turned into a table full of seafood delicacies that the Adriatic serves at its best – scampi, octopus, shellfish, fresh salads and scallops about which we could write a separate text, they were so excellent.
If you ask me – add them to your list right away. It will be the lunch you’ll remember even next summer.
Dinner at Taverna Riva
When the sun slowly sets and the number of photos in your gallery exceeds 200 (of which maybe two will end up on Instagram), you know it’s time for that most important self-care ritual – dinner. You know, that meal we all “try to skip” because we supposedly don’t eat late, but which is simply impossible to say no to – especially when Taverna Riva is calling you.
Situated right on the Bol waterfront, Taverna’s terrace has everything that makes an evening magical: soft music in the background, the murmur of passersby, the scent of the sea in the air, and plates that race for your attention along with the view.
Every dish was a little masterpiece, and I barely managed not to eat everything before “the camera eats first” and captures it all. The warm appetizer – a combination of risotto, homemade gnocchi and stuffed tortellini – was declared the hit of the evening. Still, a special place on the throne belongs to the main course: lobster tail with a skewer of cleaned scallops wrapped in pancetta and served with wok vegetables.
And just when you think it’s over – desserts arrive. Three of them, to be precise. Each better than the last and the perfect icing on a night to remember.
If you were looking for one more reason to travel to Bol – here it is. And this time, it goes straight through the stomach.
